Abstract

This paper examined the possibility of converting AI ideas into actions in Nigerian academic libraries. Literature revealed that AI offers numerous benefits to academic libraries because it can be used in almost all sections of an academic library, and can also be used to enhance academic library services. In the literature, there are evidences of the use of AI in a few academic libraries in Nigeria and beyond. In spite of the benefits that AI offers, for it to be widely implemented in Nigerian academic libraries, much need to be done. This is due to numerous constraints such as lack of funds; lack of skills and ethical issues associated with the process of turning AI ideas into actions in the academic libraries. However, these constraints can be addressed by soliciting for funds to launch the AI applications in the libraries, organizing staff training and workshops for the acquisition of necessary AI skills and development of AI ethics policies to guide the ethical use of AI by the libraries among others.
