PROFICIENCY AND TECHNICAL KNOW-HOW OF LIBRARY SERVICE PROVIDERS AND THE UTILIZATION OF AUGMENTED REALITY IN UNIVERSITY LIRARY IN FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF LAFIA, NASARAWA STATE NIGERIA

Abstract

This work studied the knowledge Proficiency and Technical know-how of Library service providers on the Utilization of Augmented Reality in University Library in Federal University Lafia, Nasarawa State Nigeria. Fifty-three Library service providers where studied using a descriptive survey method. The entire population was studied because of the small size of the population. The questionnaire titled “Proficiency and Technical Know-how on the use of Augmented Reality (PTKUARQ)” was used for data collection for and finding was analyzed using simple frequency. Findings showed, that majority of library professional in the Ekaneim I. Braide University Library have intermediate proficiency level in the use of social media digital data tool but the level in utilizations of other digital data tools range from intermediate to beginners' level. Majority are knowledgeable on the installation of the Augmented Reality tool while few have knowledge of the utilization of AR. Strategies that can improve the proficiency and technical know-how of Library service providers on the utilization of AR are identified as training on the installation of the AR tool, hands-on demonstration on operation of AR tool on Mobile device and frequent practice using the AR tool. For improve the proficiency and technical know-how of Library service providers, it was recommended that trainings on the utilization of the AR tool should be conducted and that Library service providers should be provided with avenue to practice what the learnt about utilization of AR tool.
