Abstract

This study investigated the Impact of Information Communication Technology (ICT) on the Services provided by Public Libraries in Nigeria, a Study of National Library in Plateau State Branch under North-Central, Nigeria. The study used descriptive research method were structured questionnaire was used to collect data from 30 staff of the National Library, Jos. Responses from five-Likert scale questions were coded and analyzed using descriptive statistics precisely mean, standard deviation, and frequency counts. The result revealed that public libraries in Nigeria are having a good level of ICT infrastructure, sufficient resources, reliable internet connectivity, and adequate maintenance. The ICT infrastructure in public libraries are generally viewed as modern and adequate. The most significant challenges include insufficient funding, a lack of staff ICT skills, inconsistent power supply, outdated infrastructure, and limited technical support and training. The study concluded that ICT has had a transformative effect on Nigerian public libraries, enhancing the accessibility, efficiency, and quality of services provided. However, while the general perception of ICT infrastructure is positive, significant barriers to effective implementation remain, particularly in rural libraries. Addressing these barriers through improved funding, skills development, and innovative solutions such as cloud computing and solar power will be essential to maximizing the benefits of ICT in Nigerian public libraries.
